The music world has lost another great one. Pop legend Whitney Houston passed away on Feb. 11 during the afternoon from undisclosed causes. While this blog focuses on female rappers/MCs, Whitney Houston’s formidable presence within the music world has undoubtedly influenced a countless number of female MCs/rappers through her ability to create timeless music. Instead of remembering some of the unfortunate situations she encountered, I chose to remember her as a great artist who paved the way for female artists, regardless of genres, to become powerful forces within the music industry.
***Update: It is being reported that Whitney Houston may have drowned in the bathtub in her hotel room as a result of mixing Xanax, which she was taking for anxiety, and alcohol.
***Update (10:45 a.m.): Reports now say that Whitney Houston’s death was caused by a lethal mix of prescription drugs, not a combination of Xanax and alcohol coupled with a drowning. Reports state that it is likely that she had already passed away before she was submerged under water.
