Pop Legend Whitney Houston Passes Away on Feb. 11 at the Age of 48

The music world has lost another great one.  Pop legend Whitney Houston passed away on Feb. 11 during the afternoon from undisclosed causes.  While this blog focuses on female rappers/MCs, Whitney Houston’s formidable presence within the music world has undoubtedly influenced a countless number of female MCs/rappers through her ability to create timeless music.  Instead of remembering some of the unfortunate situations she encountered, I chose to remember her as a great artist who paved the way for female artists, regardless of genres, to become powerful forces within the music industry.

***Update:  It is being reported that Whitney Houston may have drowned in the bathtub in her hotel room as a result of mixing Xanax, which she was taking for anxiety, and alcohol.

***Update (10:45 a.m.): Reports now say that Whitney Houston’s death was caused by a lethal mix of prescription drugs, not a combination of Xanax and alcohol coupled with a drowning.  Reports state that it is likely that she had already passed away before she was submerged under water.
